Cal had a very fun Halloween as an alligator, and really liked filling his bucket. At the end of the night he enjoyed a 3 musketeers bar and proceeded to dance for a full hour afterwards, spinning until he fell down. This pic was taken at a Halloween party at the Brigham House where he enjoyed a lollipop. No more sugar needed for monkey.

This past weekend, Calvin enjoyed the company of Corey. The two played at the playground and inside, enjoying trains, drums, balls, the keyboard, harmonica, and hugs. We also had fun welcoming baby Natey into the extended family.

Slides & Stiches

Last week Calvin began going down the taller slides and the spiral slides for the first time. It started with the spiral. He finally went for it, first on his belly, then facing forward sitting up. After that, he has been loving it - the taller the better, the more curves the more fun.
Yesterday while racing to the top of the tall, steep slide, while holding a ball, Calvin slipped and bit his lower lip. Blood all down his chin, it took us a bit to realize how deep the cut was, and we decided to boogie down to the ER - just in case. 3 stitches later, Calvin will still have a gorgeous smile. Cal was really amazing, his big upset was leaving the playground. His parents, a little shaken, but moving on.

Cal loves to sit in the wave breakwater and scoot closer and closer to the deeper areas. He enjoyed touching snails, crabs and fish, running after seagulls, playing in the sand and building castles, and finding rocks and throwing them into the water. Plop. Hours and hours of entertainment.

The Cousins Dinner

The California cousins came in for a long weekend. We had a wonderful time with them while they checked out Boston campuses. We also had a fun adventure exploring my home campus Northeastern University, and then later in the North End and Quincy Market area. Calvin loved the Harbor Seals at the Aquarium too. We also met third cousins for the first time this week which was a treat. They live two miles away and happen to have a daughter perfect to babysit Calvin in a few years. At our dinner table was first cousins, second cousins, third cousins, and third cousins once removed!

We recently attended John & Amy's wedding in Bridgehampton. We stayed in a 11 bedroom house with a private pool, jacuzzi, and tennis court. It was so much fun - Cal loved the pool, and we never had to 'leave the party' for nap time. It was all at the house. To be fair, we left twice - once for the wedding, and once for a sunset beach clambake. These are some great shots Rob took.

Its AMAZING how quickly time floats by when your busy chasing a toddler. Calvin is a wonderful little guy - he is funny, loves to sing and dance, climb, and play ball. He is talking small sentences, and running all over the place. He enjoys getting tickled, snuggles, and playing with water. We take swim lessons, go to several playgroups where we enjoy music and art and climbing, and go to the playground almost everyday.

15 months

I love when he sticks his arms up for me - its most pronounced when I pick him up from daycare. His arms can't go up in the air any quicker when he sees me walk through the door. He is offically toddling, and beginning to talk some. He does many gestures for things - the sun, milk, spider, more, lights, favorite songs and clapping, but he gets through any miscommunication by going eh eh ah eh eh while reaching for whatever he is eager to touch or drink or play with. First words include mama dada more baa (for dog and ball) ellis this that touch. He loves playing with trains and ride on vehicles and balls. His favorite songs include the eensy weensy spider, row row your boat, and a song about a choo choo thats coming down the track. We learned a second verse of row row your boat about what happens when you see an alligator - and Calvin now deliberately SCREAMS when the alligator verse comes - its very cute and funny. He also has such a sense of humor. He puts all his toys on his head to make you laugh, and takes delight in being silly. He also will lay on the floor screaching while pretending to tickle himself until someone finally does ;-)

Milestones

This month has flown by, and Calvin is now walking over 20 steps at a time, looking like a drunken sailor as he tots from one side of the house to the other. He takes great delight in being silly and loves to shake his head really fast and create various noises. He loves music, strumming the guitar and banging on the drums are favorite pastimes, building blocks and sorting activities can keep him entertained for a long time. He has become a pro at gestures this week, and not only does the babysigns for more and milk, he can now sign the inzy weenzy spider and also tickles himself and squeals when he wants to be tickled, and points to items that he wants to touch. He has also begun feeding himself with a fork, and almost has it down pat. This week, he had an almost 2 year moment in a restaurant - shreiking so he can be near the goldfish tank. We became those embarrassed parents you always feel bad for. We left pretty quick after that. He is so much fun though, we laugh alot, and he loves cuddles.

Cals Girlfriend Emma

We had Cals girlfriend in from Arizona last week along with her parents, and had a fantastic time catching up and playing with at the beach. It even rained to the delight of our weather deprived friends. Emma is a blast, almost 2, and gorgeous, and this space is reserved for some fun pictures - which I have to get from the grandparents machine sometime. Stay tuned.

The past two weeks Cal has been excelling in everything.

Language: this morning I said Yeah, and he said Yeah, and we repeated it back and forth to each other. He has been doing this game for a while - although still needs to practice the correct pronunciation for most of them ;-) He also loves giggle festivals, and will copy a laugh, and we could go back and forth laughing at each other for a few minutes.

Movement: He finally has mastered the crawl, and no longer stop, drop, and rolls. As soon as he learned he could really crawl,he began to really climb, and now we are in big trouble! He pulls up and stands at the coffee table and couch and walks along it. Really crusing! Nothing is safe from his grasp, and my piles of mail and papers can get scattered and torn into soggy bits if left within his reach. He also dances and loves music - he will drum, strum a guitar, or shake a maraca very contentedly.

Electronics: Anything that beeps,plays music, has buttons, lights up, or makes noise are all his favorites, and he doesn't like to share. This morning he decided the remote control was his - and we had to distract with something else. Then he found the phone - another intervention was needed. Finally I gave him his xylophone and he played happilly while I hid the contraband.

It was really nice to spend time with granny, grandma and the babies. We had extended family come visit on Saturday and got to meet Ellen and Pauls new addition, baby Noah, and on Sunday we went to Winding trails which was the perfect Sunday morning, and the cousin boys went swimming together in the lake. Also Dan, who stayed home, painted the garage this weekend with the help of many friends, and it looks brand new.

Calvin gets to everywhere he wants to go. He is pulling up on things, and babbling all sorts of important babbles. Not walking yet, no more teeth yet, but both of these milestones are coming up. Today at new Moms group, Calvin was looking a 4 month old Skyler and watching her. He then screamed "Bay - Bee" and everyone looked- it was his first real word (besides Da-da-da-da). We then all clapped - babies too, and said Hooray! He is waving at people and dancing, and laughs and giggles often. Also, he loves music. He will drum for a long time and giggle at himself.

I had to work a tradeshow this past week in San Diego, and took Grandma and Cal with me for the journey. Cal did great on the plane - such a good boy. While there, we got to visit with Great Great Aunt and Uncle Inez and Eddie. Cal had a really good time playing with them. We also visited Seaworld where Cal slept through the Shamu Splash & Show. He also has perfected his clap, and waves hi and bye to people. It is such fun.

Calvin spent the weekend leading up to the 4th at his Saba and Safta's house. He got to play in the sand and water with his new friend Corey. We got to take advantage of built in baby sitters to have two date nights! One for adult fireworks with Amy and John, and the second for Lobster and a movie with Matt and Lisa, who it was also great to see! Then on Sunday we had the added pleasure of seeing Calvin's great great Aunt and Uncle too. What a whirl wind! Mom, baby and Grandma are now in CA for a tradeshow leaving this dad to blog solo, enjoy. . .

Calvin is making adorable clicking noises, and we click together pretty often. Also, he's begun waving hello and goodbye, and clapping! he is sitting up by himself, and also getting down to the floor from sitting position too. I am starting to get nervous with him on the bed because he is becoming so mobile, and reaching, twisting and turning to whereever he wants to go. I dropped him on his head for the first time this week - and thank goodness he was laughing again after 5 minutes. I was the one that was shaken up from the experience. Dan babysat Cal all day today, and brought Cal in to my work to see me at lunch time. There was a Curious George party, and when the costumed George came to give Cal a hug, Cal got really scared and cried loudly, so no clowns at the birthday party ;-)

1st Truck ride and 1st Fathers Day

Friday night our car broke down, and Calvin got to ride in a Flat-bed tow truck. He was so excited. I think the truck thing is inherited from his dad ;-) Saturday we had JD and Sarahs B'Nei Mitzvah, and it was great to see the family. Then Sunday, we celebrated Dans 1st Fathers Day with Ed's 1st Fathers Day with Dad on his boat. The weather was gorgeous, and Jude and Cal loved the waves. Pictures to come.

Cal is filled with smiles and giggles. He is sooo close to crawling. He gets to wherever he wants at this point by rolling, or by stretching his his arms, legs dangling behind him. He is such a good eater, and eagerly accepts & eats everything but avocado. He is getting even more fun - giggling often, eager to stand up - but cant on his own, wanting what I eat (today he begged for mushrooms, and even liked them), and very interested in all that Dan and I do.

Visiting Cousin Jude

Last weekend we went to New York to visit Jude. When we got to Aunt Sissy & Uncle Ed's apartment, we discovered Cal and Jude were wearing matching outfits - this time pure coincidence. We had a wonderful visit, and Jude had a beautiful baby naming. Cal loved dancing during the services. Unfortunately, I lost my engagement ring somewhere between Katz' Deli and arriving back at Sissy's apartment - so if you are reading this, were in NY Friday eve, and you recently found a gorgeous diamond ring with platinum curly cues on the sides - I would gladly take it back - reward offered (needle in a haystack, but worth the try)
Also, Cal has started to suck on a pacifier in the past couple weeks. I know, a little late in the game, but with teething it seems to soothe him.

Cal says Da-da-dad-da-dadadadada-daDeee. Daddy is thrilled with this new development. It is very sweet. Also, Cal is eating more foods. Cheerios, salmon, and pizza crust, are some of his favorites. He is sleeping better these days too - down by latest 10, up at 5ish. Then back down for an hour or so. Not terrible compared to the previous months.

Cal went with me and Dan to Anaheim, CA last week. I was working a tradeshow, and Dad was the manny. We had a great time, and while we were there, Dad and Cal went to Disneyland and hung out at the show. On Calvins 7 month B-day, April 8, Calvin got his first tooth. Then that night, we had dinner with Harold and Virginia, and then slept at Cousin Donna's house. We got back Sunday night, and Monday, Cal & I went to visit Aunty Sissy, Uncle Ed, and Baby Jude. Jude was so cute, and Cal smiled each time he looked at him. We celebrated passover at Aunt Jane and Uncle Ivans, and then went to CT the next day to Saba and Softa's house. We are now home, and just enjoying staying in one place for the weekend.

1st Fever

Cal has his first real first fever this weekend. Poor kid is just exhausted, and cuddles, snuggles, nurses, and falls back asleep. It was up to 103 yesterday, and so far this morning is back down to 99.1. So far, we are not sure why, but he is battling something. Teething? Stomach virus? We have no clue. Hopefully he will feel better as soon as it came.

Calvins' Friends

Friday we had little Georgia over and enjoyed yummy dinner and wine with the whole Waltzman crew.Yesterday we had a great time playing with Ella & Ellis, and their parents. We had them over for BBQ lunch, and then took a really nice walk throughout the playgrounds nearby. It was so nice to get us all together, and for our husbands to finally meet. Our kids & us have grown very close since meeting at the new moms group, so this was definately the first of many full family get-togethers.

Grandma Margie came in on Wednesday, & she took Calvin shopping! He not only got an air ball that he can grab himself, but he got the new convertible car seat. I am not ready to get rid of his portable & convenient infant seat yet, but he is getting bigger, and pretty soon we will have no choice.

He got his 6 month shots on Friday, and measured 24.5 inches long, and 16 lbs, 12 oz. His weight is in the 50 percentile, his length is in the 25 percentile, and his head circumfrence is a whopping 75 percentile. He barely winced for his shots, as he was too busy playing with the measuring tape. Mr. Drool is going to sprout teeth seemingly anyday now, his gums are hard and he can't put enough objects in his mouth. This week we are trying out a new daycare, and so far so good. I like his new place thankgoodness! This past weekend Papa EE and Mama CC came to visit, and we went out to Sushi. Calvin loved the miso soup. He wolfed it down. He also got some applesauce this weekend, and was very happy.

Babysitters & Daycare

Well we finally did it, last Friday eve Dan & I left Calvin at home while we went out to see the Harry Potter movie that came out in October. Andrew watched Calvin for us, and it sounds like Calvin gave him a great adventure. He woke up much earlier than expected, and stayed up pretty much the whole time. But it was worth it, we all had a great time. Last week we went to Edward & Shireens B-day meals, and also the boat show. Lastly, Calvin is moving to a new daycare next week. It just didn't work out at Joans. Apparently, Calvin needed to be 'babied' too much, and takes time away from the other kids when he cries. I have to say, he is mostly a happy kid when with me, so I don't really understand. He seems to me like an average 6 month old. The new daycare is close to work so at least I can run to see him at lunch easier. Other milestones include lots of sitting up - still with assistance, and lots of food. He eats carrots, peas, green beans, sweet potatoes, rice cereal, oatmeal, and bananas. He is also getting heavy! I just moved him into size 3 diapers, and he is getting ready for 6-9 clothes. Today he will have his 6 month shots - poor kiddo.

Ari came in this past weekend, and Cal got some good Saba & Softa time too as a bonus. Saturday night we went to Dina's & enjoyed yet another feast, and Cal slept in the pack n play pretty much the whole delicious time. The huge snowstorm came & Dan got to use his snowblower, and Ari helped him shovel. Monday, I got a bonus day off from work which canceled because of the previous nights snow, and Calvin still went to daycare. I got to do some errands Cal-free ;-) Today they had a valentine party at his daycare, and he brought home a big bag full of treats and cards. He is getting really good at entertaining himself for 10 minutes at a time. He sucks his fingers, loves his toys & books, and laughs when I blow him a kiss.

So now that we have all been sick for a week, time to catch up. Last weekend, we went to CT to visit with Great Grandma Annette. We slept over at Grandma's house on Saturday, and kicked her out Sat. night so Aimee and John could visit. Then we went to Great Grandmas on Sunday, and she was so thrilled. She showed off Cal in the dining room so all her friends could see, and he smiled the whole time and really hammed it up. On the way home we stopped at Softa and Saba's house for dinner, and the Feins and Steins stopped in to see the little guy too. That night in Boston, we started to feel sore throats coming on, and within a day it was full fledged colds for me and Cal. Dan seemed to just stick with the sore throat. We played low for the rest of the week, but continued to go to work, and daycare. Thursday I went to a lecture on Raising Sons: A Mothers' Perspective without the boys, and last night we stayed in. Today, who knows whats in store - but we will go out soon, because I want to find an exersaucer for Cal. He has been sitting up for over 60 seconds now, and is really strong - standing on his legs with support, and grabbing at his heavier toys and books. Yesterday I fed him sweet potatoes for the first time, and he really seemed to enjoy them. He ate them all. He is really swallowing now too.

The Curse of the Daycare!

It was a dark and rainy Friday morning. All through the previous night, a baby was coughing, mother was sniffling and father was wondering when he too is going to succumb to The Curse of the Daycare! Well we are now fully into this wonderful virus experiment called Daycare. I can finally understand the human child Petri dish condition. It is amazing how fast it happens. I guess our son is finally old enough to play with the same toys the other children are sneezing on. How proud I am!

Alright, on a better note Calvin is actually doing some amazing things even with a head cold! His attention span has exponentially increased. He is now able to be plopped into a sitting position and presented toys to play with. This is actually providing minutes of entertainment for mom and I. His smiles too have increased and I would swear that he has been laughing at the funny things I do, even when I’m not trying to be funny!

Cal is loving rice cereal now. He roots into the spoon and makes umm noises. This week we introduced peas. How much does he love them? Not so much. He made a squinched up face that was very funny. He is sitting up for 30 seconds on his own now, and has rolled over 3 times. He is sucking & playing with his fingers, drooling up a storm, grasping at toys, and smiling huge smiles. We had a nice relaxing weekend, having dinner again at the Ehring house followed by Thomas & Cynthias the next night. Tuesday the Delacruz's came by and brought Dan a Happy B-Day icecream cake. We got to celebrate again, what fun! Today Dan went skiing w/ John, and I went to new moms group, followed by working at home. Luckily Cal took a 3 hour nap which helped me there.

We had a Bollywood movie, Bride & Prejudice, and indian food night at Fiona & Steve's house this week. Dina & Jackie joined us also. Calvin really like the movie, or should I say, Cal just really likes television. When it is on, he is mesmerized! He watched the whole movie, loved the musical numbers, and then rolled over while we were all watching him. There are some great pictures Jackie took - we forgot the camera, and when I learn how I will share them.

Aunt's Weekend

Both Aunts were here this weekend. Rena and Risa gave Calvin all sorts of attention. Risa and I went out for pedicures on Saturday, leaving Dan to babysit. Also, we had lots of company over on Sunday which was fun. This is my first week with a 32 hour work schedule, and so far so good. Cal is in daycare for 3 full days, and then I work from home half days the other two. Today I worked for an hour, then took Cal to the new moms group, then out for lunch, and then back to work. It is a great schedule for us. Calvin is doing wonderfully, smiling up a storm, despite catching a cold from his first week at daycare. He doesn't like saline and the mucus bulb one bit.
